Number 41
We can't find a culture that be so rich like the mexican culture. We have many different customs and we like laugh for everything. This customs have historical background like the food, clothing, the way how we comunicate into us and other things like the topic of today, the origen of de number 41. One of the craziest things in our country
The fact which created this "tradition" involved two important figures in the political and social life of Mexico. None other than the daughter of President Porfirio Diaz, Amada Diaz and Ignacio de la Torre y Mier, her husband. Ignacio de la Torre was the son of a wealthy landowner in the State of Mexico and married the daughter of President Diaz. The political future of De la Torre was logical, then enjoyed the support of his father in law. However, one event that changed his life and scored in the popular lexicon reference to the number 41.
It all started on November 20, 1901, there was a party in a luxurious house at La Paz, near the center of Mexico City. During the celebration, the policeman guarding the area made him curious that only men from entering the party. It was decided to inform his superiors of what was happening. Within minutes showed a raid on the house to enter the police found many woman elegantly dressed men with wigs, hairpieces busts, earrings and makeup. Cops and their superiors formed in a row the revelers: counted to 41, but the organizer of the party, the number 42, had fled through the roof. He was Ignacio de la Torre, the son in law of General Diaz and although he never checked his presence there, the rumor was never denied.
President tried to silence the information to the press and avoid a scandal, but the rumor spread throughout the nation. The General and Ignacio met and although it was not known that they spoke, the greatest president withdrew his support to promote the candidacy of his son in law by the State of Mexico.
Thanks to the sarcasm of the mexican people, such a number was associated with homosexuality and with the help of the media, including the press, theater or painting, the custom became bigger and rooted in our country. That's the reason we avoided using the 41 in the army, in numbers of employees, hotel rooms, among others. Even some men avoid saying his age when he get his 41 springs.
Certainly Ignacio de la Torre and his father in law Porfirio Diaz gave us one of the most fun traditions that we have the mexican people and understand that few others countries.
